Known Problems with SideCar/Mac
Slow Web Page Loading
SideCar/Mac is slow. This results in many web pages which use Kerberos for authentication to load slowly.
Not useable with WebDAV shares which use Kerberos for authentication.
Due to the slow operation of SideCar/Mac, WebDAV shares which use Kerberos for authentication are not usable via SideCar/Mac.
However, SideCar is no longer needed to access these WebDAV shares. Instead you can use kproxy.
SideCar.app is not running, but there is still a server on your machine listening on port 913.
SideCar/Mac is split into several different components. One of those is SideCar.app, which is the application you start from the Dock or the Finder.
To handle network requests, SideCar/Mac uses a different component; a daemon called casd. If SideCar.app is not running, chances are casd still is, and is listening on port 913 for incoming SideCar requests.
You can stop casd from Activity Monitor, but casd will start again the next time you restart machine (unless you are behind a NAT), so to permanently stop casd from running, you will need to uninstall SideCar/Mac.
Orphaned Temp Files
During normal operation, SideCar/Mac writes temp files used by Unix Domain Sockets in this directory:
/var/tmp
If SideCar/Mac or OS X crashes, these temp files written by SideCar will be left behind. These files have two different naming conventions:
1) A 5 digit file name, such as:
00209 00716 00758
2) A filename which starts with scX, followed by 5 digits, such as
scX00676 scX00499 scX00378
These files can be deleted by hand. Be sure and quit both SideCar and casd first. For how to do this, see the page How To Uninstall SideCar/Mac.
When will these problems be fixed?
There are plans to retire SideCar/Mac and SideCar/Windows next year. Because of those plans, the above problems with SideCar/Mac will remain until its retirement.
But, chances are you do not need SideCar/Mac. (See the page Authentication Alternatives to SideCar/Mac.)
If you do not need SideCar/Mac, you may want to remove it from your Mac. See the section How To Uninstall SideCar/Mac.
